Our Pantry Remodel!

Hello there!! Welcome to my page! I am about to share one of my first blogs with you! I hope what you read here will inspire you to see the potential in your own home, and get your creative juices flowing!

So, I bring you to the demo of our pantry that we decided to do one morning to make it more efficient for our HUGE family. Where the pantry door would swing open, would be right in the way of the small walkway we have going from the kitchen into the livingroom.

So if you were trying to come from the livingroom into the kitchen, and someone was looking in the pantry for something, you would get a door to the face, and have to wait. If the person was nice enough, they would let you 'shuffle' by...which was a tight squeeze to put it mildly.

So onto Pinterest I went! I stumbled upon this amazing blog by http://www.thediyvillage.com/…/custom-kitchen-pantry-reveal. I then figured "What the heck" and without a second thought, began demo'ing!

This is our 'Before' picture of our Pantry...from this picture, you would see nothing 'unusual' about this, but if you look from a different angle...

...you will see that between the table and the pantry, we have quite a small wall through, and just imagine that door open!

So we got together our demo'ing tools, and got to work! It didn't take long, and I might add, a little therapeutic ;)

Annnnnnd just like that! The pantry door, shelves, and door frame was gone!

I first built up a platform to set the 'bookshelves' on. This also gave it a more 'built-in' look with adding the molding on the bottom wrapping around seamlessly from one room to the other. (look at all of the wasted space that was above! We gained about another foot of storage!)

Then the building of the shelving started. We built it in three seperate sections so that it would be easier to install. Our measurements were spot on (yay for math!), so (thankfully) we didn't have any issues installing it.

***Side note-I took some of my boxes of cereal and canned goods, and included those into the orginal measuring plan that we had, so we KNEW that our stuff would fit when it was done.

We added all of our goods, to make sure everything fit, and then added the facing.

We originally had decided that the center was going to be behind doors, but I changed my mind mid-way through, to include two drawers and an open area for my cookbooks and such.

I know, it seems kinda pointless to get all that added space on top, only to take away from it in the middle, but I like pretty stuff, so I HAD to incorporate some kind of design to it...Did I mention that I LOVE to decorate?

So I quickly got to work, and built some drawers, and then painted the inside of the pantry.

I decided on some kind of quartrefoil design to be drawn out and painted. I could have used a stencil, but I couldn't find any at the stores that was JUST RIGHT, so I just drew it out myself, using a picture of the image I wanted and traced it onto a piece of cardboard. I held the cardboard up against the inside wall, and traced around it with a pencil, and then with a steady hand, I painted the lines.

When that was done and I was happy with the results, onto the pretty stuff I went! (I couldn't wait for my hubby to get home to help with the door install, so I played around with my decorations while I waited!)

Then came the doors, and drawers, moldings and hardware to flow with the rest of my kitchen!

We are VERY pleased with the outcome, and when you open one of the doors, you still have PLENTY of room to walk by!

Stay tuned for another one of our projects that we did on 'the fly'....and don't forget, to check out the link that helped me get through this project! There is NO WAY that we would have even attempted such a huge feat if it wasn't for this great tutorial! Until next time!
